Afinitica Technologies is proud of the talent it hires. One of our chemists, Dr Vladimir (T)chaplinski has recently been credited in a named reaction modification, the so-called ‘de Meijere-Chaplinski modification' of the Kulinkovich reaction as reported in The Royal Society of Chemistry publication 'Chemical Communications', Aleksandr N. Shestakov and Mikhail A. Kuznetsov, 2016, Vol 52, p2398,. Key starting materials for this work were derived from the research conducted in Vladimir’s doctoral thesis. Currently Vladimir is conducting pioneering work on the synthesis of a broad range of instantly polymerisable monomers in Afinitica Technologies.

The government of la Generalitat de Catalunya in Spain announced recipients of the prestigious medal Narcis Monturiol to 16 individuals and 3 institutions

These awards are made in recognition of scientific and technical merit to individuals and entities who have made significant  contribution to the development of science and technology in Catalonia.

One recipient of this award is :

Ramón Bacardit

Doctor of chemical research UAB. From 1981-2013 he worked in various positions in Henkel where he directed various R&D groups that generated more than 50 patents each year. From 2009-2013 he was an Honorary Professor in Tongii University, Shanghai. In 2013  he started Afinitica Technologies s.l., a spin-out from Henkel, which is located in Campus UAB.

FEICON, one of the largest Construction Fair in Latin America, witnessed the launch of a new product range from our partner Artecola. This new line of product includes methoxyethyl-based instant adhesives which are odorless and non-blooming, which are desirable properties compared to traditional instant adhesives. A super adhesive that can bond any material in two seconds, without drying and without clogging the packaging, is one of the novelties that AFIX presented at FEICON BATIMAT. "We will present an innovative and unique line for Latin America, which brings together practicality, safety and versatility with highly differentiated performance," said the Director of Operations Artecola Chemistry, Rafael Müssnich.

ARTECOLA CHEMICAL AND AFINITICA - The new line of instant adhesives is a partnership between Artecola Chemistry, leader in adhesives in Latin America and who holds the AFIX brand, and the Spanish Afinitica Technologies, a global benchmark in special cyanoacrylate technology. "We are providing solutions for those wishing to fix an object from home to conduct professional cabinet work, very quickly and safely" says the Director. "We want to further strengthen the portfolio of products we offer to the market, and that is what we are presenting only two months after signing the alliance agreement between the two companies," says Müssnich.

International partnership focuses on sepecialised cyanoacrylate technology. Company based in Barcelona is a world reference in the segment.

Artecola Chemical, based in Campo Bom (RS), operating in all Latin America and one of the largest companies of its segment, has signed a distribution agreement with Afinitica Technologies, Spain. The focus of the new partnership is the special cyanoacrylate technology, a segment in which Afinitica is a world reference. "The agreement is an important step to further strengthen the product portfolio we offer to the market, reinforcing our innovative profile through differentiated adhesives and strategic alliances," said the Executive Director of Artecola Chemistry, Lisiane Kunst Bohnen.
Headquartered in Barcelona, ​​Afinitica creates unique and innovative products based on cyanoacrylates, including odorless products that do not stain, products based on new monomers, flexible products, two-component versions and also gels with long open times relative to traditional cyanoacrylates. Such products combine adjusted speed, ease of application, high performance and universal use.

The product line is intended to several market segments, including consumer, footwear, furniture and automotive. "This is a trend in the industry, and differentiation through Afinitica products allows Artecola to expand the supply of special technologies for all of Latin America," emphasizes Lisiane.

Afinitica Technologies s.l. (Afinitica) and Cartell Chemicals Co. (Cartell), sign a licence agreement for the manufacturing of specialty cyanoacrylate monomers.

Afinitica, a new technology driven start-up, founded in May 2013 and located in the “Parc de Recerca”, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, in Bellaterra  has developed advanced new process chemistry for the production of specialty cyanoacrylate monomers, that form the principle component of ‘superglue’ type instant adhesives. The new process enables the synthesis of specialty cyanoacrylate monomers in an environmentally responsible and economical way that will enable the adhesives industry to launch new instant adhesives with improved properties, previously not viable or possible due to high production costs and poor quality.
Examples of new products pending product launch include:

• A new range of non-irritant instant adhesives
• High quality medical–grade cyanoacrylate monomers for sutureless skin bonding
• A first generation of instant adhesive products with bulk curing properties and high performance to address more structural-like bonding, sealing, filling and repair applications, with all the convenience of rapid cure.

The Afinitica owned proprietary technology will be exploited by Cartell through a license agreement signed in September 2014
Cartell, a company, with more than 20 years experience in the mass production of cyanoacrylates and that leads an important part of the instant adhesives market worldwide, is headquartered at its state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities in Chai-Yi, Taiwan. The Afinitica process technology will be implemented at this location.
New products resulting from access to high quality cyanoacrylates will be offered to the Global market from Taiwan, following the model Cartell has successfully operated for many decades.
The first wave of new product launches will include a high performance, non-irritating odourless instant adhesive with a high level of flexibility not traditionally associated with superglues.

Drs. Michael Chen and Ramón Bacardit, CEOs of Cartell and Afinitica respectively, communicated today that this agreement marks a significant milestone which is poised to dramatically change the market of instant adhesives in industrial and consumer applications.

The new manufacturing process developed by Afinitica allows also the production of reactive monomers for instant adhesives, with a minimum of waste  and with a much lower energy and water consumption than the current manufacturing process used by the adhesives industry, in addition to achieving high monomer quality. This process represents a significant improvement in the sustainable production of instant adhesives.
